Our name is National, but our focus is local. We are a commercial design-build general contractor strengthening southern Wisconsin’s growth by partnering with local business and community leaders.
Our portfolio of work includes commercial remodeling, commercial renovation and new construction for the businesses and services most important to a city’s residents, like childcare, healthcare and government facilities, and housing, retail and hospitality. Our work has increased tourism revenue and the tax base, expanded childcare and healthcare options, improved rental housing, doubled manufacturing capacity, and revitalized historic downtown districts.

Neil Johnson founded National Construction in 1990. He later partnered with JG Development, headquartered in southwestern Wisconsin and owned by Jeff Grundahl and Mary Grundahl, on some larger projects. In 2008, Neil sold the firm to JG Development and moved into a superintendent role – a position he held until his retirement in 2020.
We are one of four divisions of JG Development, now 100 percent employee owned. We offer several building design and construction options, whether your project is a small remodel or a multi-million dollar community improvement initiative.
