Respected Wisconsin tourism marketing firm Pilch & Barnet – which shares the Trademark Building with National Construction’s downtown Madison offices, among others – sought a build-out of their second floor space in the 1900s manufacturing building. National installed new flooring, repainted interior steel features, and stained the wood ceiling. Perimeter walls were drywalled and painted, and interior partitions added to establish a vestibule and reception area, conference room, production and storage space, offices, breakroom, bathrooms and storage. Unique to the firm’s needs was a soundproof media room.

The triangular site presented one serious obstacle to surmount: contaminated soil. The structure is a combination of steel and light gauge metal framing, white oak heavy timber, and wood roof trusses, clad in limestone, brick, western red cedar, and clay roof tiles.
