National Construction was renovating what was then Dane County Credit Union’s eastside location when the leading financial institution began to explore the idea of expansion. The credit union surmised the transformed eastside branch and a new, additional location on the west side would attract new membership and significantly increase their market share.
Leadership was happy with the renovation work to date and knew National Construction could complete the job to their satisfaction.
Despite a few delays requiring overtime investment by National and its subcontractors, Dane County’s Credit Union had a state of the art facility and an amplified presence in the Madison market just six months later.
The credit union had already selected a site adjacent to a post office and grocery store on the corner of a busy intersection. They wanted the building to be instantly recognizable; meet the needs of its members, employees, and board of directors; and accommodate future growth.
Bray Associates Architects developed a circular design that fulfilled the credit union’s desire for a timeless, iconic structure – but proved to be a challenge to construct. Even the simplest task required strategic planning and patience from National carpenters and subcontractors, and that craftsmanship is evident in the completed building.
Brick and aluminum grace the exterior, and sustainable materials are used throughout. A two story glass atrium and patterned tile floor highlight the spacious, inviting entrance. Contrasting maple and cherry hardwoods, along with granite work surfaces, create a rich environment for members, employees and visitors.
Heartland Credit Union acquired Dane County Credit Union in 2022.
